Porto to Aveiro and Coimbra

Become an expert in the history of Portugal with this fun and educational trip to the cities of Aveiro and Coimbra. The tour starts with a visit to the beautiful city of Aveiro, known as the Portuguese Venice due to the sea water channels that flood the city. Once in Aveiro, we visit the colorful seaside area of Costa Nova, where you can appreciate the typical fisherman houses decorated with colored stripes.

Next, you visit Barra’s beach and learn how the population of Aveiro lived with the influence of the sea in the 17th and 18th centuries. Then we visit the city center, where you can see the 15th century cathedral, the old train station with its tiles, and the fish market. You may choose to take a boat cruise through the city channels on a typical moliceiro boat.

After lunch, the tour continues towards the City of Knowledge, Coimbra. Visit the first Portuguese university from the 13th century, the cathedral, and walk on the narrow streets of the medieval city center. Here, we visit the 12th century Santa Cruz church, where the tomb of the first Portuguese king is found, as well as the Café of Santa Cruz and the Monastery of Santa Clara a Velha. It’s a unforgettable experience!
